A MESSAGE FROM Donna Shank, President Wings to Thrive, Inc.
In 2004 my son Ryan was officially diagnosed with autism. This led to many years of home programs, collaboration with many therapists, and certifications and trainings in various autism interventions. I soon realized that in order for my child to achieve his potential, I would have to find our own solution that would meet his unique needs. I was also inspired to open a center that would understand an autism diagnosis from a parent's perspective and in 2014, I created Wings to Fly Therapy and Play Center.
Over the past 6 years, I have seen how challenging it is for families to create their own road map and the struggles of the growing isolation that autism can create. For most, therapies are not financially feasible, often not covered by insurance and moreso, do not provide the social activities so integral for the strength of the family.
When families of children with autism have opportunities to experience daily successes and daily immersion into their neighborhoods, their circle of friends, and their communities, it creates hope and empowerment. I have seen that providing an atmosphere with activities where families can be "themselves", without fear of judgement, was the most powerful gift anyone could give - this has been my inspiration to create WINGS TO THRIVE. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we will seek to sponsor and provide social and educational opportunities for families, make them accessible and affordable and inspire families to plan for their future with optimism.
Thank you for your support! Donna Shank, President, Wings to Thrive, Inc.
